About

This project investigates the history of racism, from its scientific inception to its modern-day consequences. More specifically, it showcases the visual representation of Black people through media and advertisement, academia, and literature. It also explores the experiences of daily racial profiling and internalised racism. Our hope through this process, which is only the beginning, is to flip imagery on its head. We also deconstructed and reconstructed quotes to emphasise our analysis and perceptions. We use this as a tool to reappropriate how we are represented and comment on racist tendencies and their consequent academic writings. One thing is for sure: from 19th-century polygenesis books to modern-day advertisement, when it comes to how ethnic minorities are seen: ain’t nothing changed.
